NM1: Drissa Ballo (The Portel) replaces Okonkwo at Cep Lorient

After the amicable termination with Munachiso Okonkwo Tuesday, did not take long to find a replacement. It will be , who has the same technical profile as Nigerian but more experienced: he was playing this season with Le Portel (Pro A) where he was polishing the bench.

The CEP may have made a very nice shot by swapping an inexperienced pivot at the European level still raw talent for a similar profile but probably much more easily integrated in the current team. This massive post (2.08, 112 kg) will thus have a much stronger experience than its predecessor since at 24, Drissa Ballo, trained in Dijon, has played for five seasons in Pro B, with Hyères-Toulon , Aix-Maurienne, Blois then Evreux. He was French Pro B champion in his second season with Blois in 2018. That season, he had 12 minutes of play per game on average (3.6 points to 64%, 54% to francs, 2.6 rebounds). In Evreux last season, he had started on similar bases with a slight rise in power (4.8 points, 3.2 rebounds in six games) before having to undergo arthroscopy.

A Malian international

In addition to being French-speaking, the pivot will also have the advantage of knowing some of his partners: he is international Malian, as are Baba Samake, Ibrahim Saounera or Souarata Cissé.

It remains to be seen if this big size will not be bothered again by physical glitches as it may have been the case in the past. If this is not the case, Cep Lorient has probably enrolled a valuable element. A valuable element that could well be qualified this Saturday (20 pm) for the derby against Vitré at the sports palace of Kervaric.
