Previously announced in Egypt, it was ultimately Mali that was designated by FIBA to organize the FIBA U18 2020 African women’s championship.
Bamako will host the 16th edition of the FIBA U18 Women’s Basketball Championship in place of Cairo, which will house the boys’ championship.
The competition will take place from July 10 to 19, 2020 at the Salamatou Maiga sports palace, which has become one of the temples of continental basketball, for having hosted several African competitions, all categories combined.
Mali, which has won seven of its away trophies, will organize the competition for the first time after that of the boys in 2018, and should confirm its great domination in the category by trying to glean an 8th title.
Mali has won the last 3 cups in a row and will be the team to beat, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has won twice and Egypt, Senegal, Angola and Tunisia have won once each.
