CAIRO (Egypt) – Mali won their second straight FIBA U18 African Championship title after edging Senegal 82-80 in Wednesday’s Final at the Cairo Stadium.
Bourama Coulibaly dropped a game high 21 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds to inspire Mali to a surprise win over Senegal who had been marked as favorites.
On the other side, Khalifa Ababacar Diop registered a double double with 18 points and 14 rebounds while his teammate Babacar Sane scored 18 points but their efforts were not enough to help Senegal to their first ever title.
Thanks to his stellar performance throughout the tournament Bourama Coulibaly was named the Most Valuable Player, headlining the All-Star Five, where he was joined by Egyptians Moamen Abouzeid and Mohab Abdalatif as well as the Senegalese duo of Babacar Sane and Ibou Badji.
