Guinea awarded wild card for Women’s AfroBasket 2021, Tunisia and Angola complete lineup

ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) – FIBA Africa on Sunday awarded Guinea a wild card for the upcoming FIBA Women's 2021, following the withdrawal of Gabon.

The biennial 12-nation tournament will take place from September 17-26 at Yaounde Multisport Complex in Cameroon's capital city Yaounde.

Guinea lost to Cape Verde 132-124 on aggregate in a two-game regional qualifier in June in their capital city of Conakry.

It will be Guinea's third appearance since 2015.

In addition to Guinea, Angola and Tunisia will take part in the competition.

Angola qualified after Zone 6 Botswana and Zimbabwe quit the qualifier, which was scheduled for the Angolan capital Luanda early this month.

Tunisia return to the tournament after Zone 1 teams presented no registration for the regional qualifier, which was scheduled for Tunis, Tunisia.

Guinea will play Egypt and Senegal in Group C.

Angola have been added to Group B alongside and two-time defending champions Nigeria and Tunisia will play Mali and Cote d'Ivoire in Group D.

In the first phase, each team will take on their two opponents in their respective groups.

QUALIFICATION FOR THE FINAL QUARTER-FINALS

The top teams in each group will advance directly to the Quarter-Finals. The teams ranked second (2nd) and third (3rd) will play the Qualification Round for the Quarter-Finals.

FINAL PHASE
The winners of the Quarter-Final advance to Semi-Finals, while the losers will play the classification games for the 5th to 8th Places.

The classification game for Third-Place and the Final will be played on the last day of competition (September 26).

Nigeria head to Yaounde as the two-time defending champions, Senegal finished runners-up two years, Mali finished in third place.
