After losing their first match against the host country Angola, Mali was defeated by Nigeria 56-62.

This is the second consecutive defeat for Mali in the FIBA AfroCan 2023 tournament.

The match started poorly for Mali, as they were clearly dominated in the first quarter by Nigeria, with a score of 9-20.

Nigeria was very strong on the rebounds, especially thanks to Victor Anthony, who grabbed 12 out of his team’s 46 rebounds, compared to only 36 for Mali.

The duo of Micheal Afuwape and Chinedu Martins Chimbuo was crucial for Nigeria’s victory, combining for 31 points. On the Malian side, only Benké Diarouma, with 11 points, and Ousmane Traoré, with 10 points, managed to surpass the 10-point mark.

This second defeat is a blow for Mali, who had hoped to perform well in this tournament. The players will now have to regroup and find solutions to turn the tide in their upcoming matches.
