From Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 September 2019, Bamako will host the African Minibasket Forum, organized by FIBA AFRICA in partnership with the IBF (International Basketball Foundation) and the Malian Federation of Basketball (FMBB).
Renowned for its great grassroots basketball training capacity, Mali was chosen by FIBA Africa to host the African Minibasket Forum. The country has won several awards in the youth categories and has recently distinguished itself globally with a quarter-finalist spot at the U19 Girls World Cup and a historic U19 Boys Vice World Champion spot.
Organized 2018 in Ifran in Morocco, the forum is held this year in Mali. Thus the setting is well chosen to organize in Bamako such an event to promote and popularize this discipline on the continent.
The event is continental and global:
- Continental: Participation is open to all African federations
- Global: The forum is global because it addresses all components of Minibasket:
The Minibasket Forum will be articulated on several activities:
- Minibasket Coaches Clinics
- Minibasket Workshops with Players
- Referee Clinic
- Minibasket matches and fixtures
- Workshops and round tables
- Games and competitions
- Dating and Matches
The event will take place over 5 days, from Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th September at Kabala High School and will bring together around 400 young U8, U10 and U12 participants from Mali and 11 other countries. In addition to the participants, there will be several stakeholders comprised of local (30), foreign (12) and Minibasket (3) coaches. At the same time, the IBF will donate 30 billboards, chasubles and T-SHs to participants and will offer 400 MiniBasket balloons to Mali and the 11 countries participating in the event.
