Outclassed (59-77) Wednesday evening by a Rezé team which had never won away this season, UF Angers, leader of LF2, learned this Thursday February 25 of the positive Covid test from the one of his players. The team are confined for the next seven days, so they will not be able to face Montbrison on Saturday as planned.

Already, when we woke up, morale was not good. We were bound to have a bit of a hangover this (Thursday) morning, given our poor performance the day before, confirms David Gautier. Barely enough time to digest and the Angevin coach learned in the middle of the morning that one of his players had a positive Covid test. Immediate consequence: isolation for one week of the entire workforce and staff, considered as a contact case; and postponement, in the wake of the match against Montbrison scheduled for Saturday, February 27 in Jean-Bouin.

Constrained and forced, Angers will therefore have to wait before hoping to bounce back and forget his disastrous outing against Rezé (59-77). On this match, I have a feeling of shame, for the image we gave, asserts the leader Isis Arrondo, ultimately not that surprised: It was hanging a little on our noses, by dint of putting ourselves in danger. I feel like, to perform, you need your back to the wall. It’s almost done now.

“Our competitors must have been delighted, it’s fair game”

Admittedly, Angers remains master of its own destiny: if UFAB wins its last six league games, it will be certain to rise to the top. Another misstep would put them in danger, however, and within reach of Reims, Toulouse and Aulnoye, who are only one victory behind the Angevines. On the agenda of the UFAB include the reception in Reims and a trip to Aulnoye … I imagine that our competitors must have been delighted with this defeat, and it is fair game. We have a target on our back, everyone wants our skin. This is the status of leader that wants that, explains Arrondo, always determined: It is up to us to prove why we are in this place.

We will have to be patient first. Wait for all players’ test results, while confining themselves for seven days. If the match against Montbrison is for sure postponed, what will happen to the one scheduled in ten days at La Tronche-Meylan? With one or two games to be rescheduled, UF Angers can legitimately dread busy weeks by the end of the season, which is hardly successful. Three times this season, David Gautier’s team have had to play in the middle of the week: on a Thursday, for a victory against the last, the Federal Center; but also two of his three defeats, against Montbrison on Tuesday, December 15, and Rezé, this Wednesday …
