The NBA announced Tuesday that it would maintain the play-offs, the play-ins.
The NBA announced Tuesday that it intends to maintain the play-offs of access to the play-offs, a system which allows more franchises to hope to qualify at the end of the regular season. This format, called “play-in”, was inaugurated last season and allows franchises finishing between 7th and 10th place in their conference to compete for two places in the play-offs. Previously, only the top eight teams from each conference qualified. For the 2021-2022 season, the play-in tournament will take place from April 12 to 15. The regular season is scheduled to end on April 10 and the play-offs begin on the 16th.
The leaders of the NBA franchises approved this decision which allows to maintain more suspense until the end of the regular season.
In addition, the NBA has indicated that the franchises will be able to begin as of next Monday to negotiate contracts with the free players and their recruitment will be authorized from August 6. Training camps will begin on September 28, three weeks before the start of the season set for October 19.
The League also repealed a rule enacted in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic that gave franchises more flexibility vis-à-vis players in their contracts.
