Mali left no chance for Rwanda, clearly dominated from start to finish in the second group D meeting of the 2021 Afrobasket qualifiers in Monastir.

Mali largely defeated Rwanda 76-51, thus reducing its record to 2 wins against 2 losses in the second meeting of Group D. This is Mali’s second victory against Rwanda, after winning 70 -64 in the first round of the Qualifiers last November in Kigali.

If the game was balanced between the two teams at the start of the first quarter time, it is rather the Malians who take a short lead at the end of the quarter time (17-12). The rest of the match is to the advantage of captain Kanté and his teammates, who thanks to a good defense, manage to limit the Rwandans to (19-11) in the second quarter, before clearly dominating him on the return from the break (26-14).

The last quarter time allows Remy Giuitta to give a little more playing time to his bench and quietly ensure a victory already acquired at the end of the third quarter time.

“It was a great team effort and I love when my players play like this,” comments Mali coach Rémi Giuitta.

Five Malian players finished the game with double-digit performances, they are Mahamadou Kanté (10pts), Boubacar Fadiala Sidibé (11pts), Nianta Diarra (12pts), Drake Reeds (10pts) and newcomer Sadio Doucouré who successfully integrated into the Malian team with his 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, with an evaluation of 17, confirming his good performance of the day.

With this victory, Mali is almost sure to qualify for the next afrobasket Kigali 2021.

On Thursday, Mali will be opposed in the first hour at 5 p.m. UT to South Sudan which had surprised it last November in Kigali (77-64).
